1891 Magazine Article John Hunt Morgan's Rough Rider Incursions and Adventures into Ohio and Indiana Up for bids is this rare exceptional 3 part magazine article " Morgan's Rough Riders" from the February 1891 issue of "The Century Magazine." This informative, 23 page, illustrated 3 part article covers the incursions of John Hunt Morgan's Rough Riders into Indiana and Ohio from Kentucky in the summer of 1863. The article is divided into three major parts--"The Raid" by Gen. Basil W. Duke, CSA, (a member of Morgan's command staff)--"The Capture" by Orlando B. Willcox, of the Union's 1st Michigan Regiment which chased and finally captured Morgan and his men--"The Escape" by Capt. Thomas H. Hines, CSA, who was also part of Morgan's staff and was involved with Morgan in Morgan's successful escape from the Ohio State Penitentiary in November of 1863. All three of the narratives are exceptionally well written with lots of carefully recorded details of the events surrounding the 1863 Morgan's Rough Rider exploits. In summary the 3 articles cover Morgan's commission to divert Union forces by raiding numerous Kentucky locations, his plan to initially follow orders and then to disobey direct orders by crossing the Ohio River into Indiana and the Ohio.
