Up for sale is a Morgan Silver Dollar in an Old NGC Holder !!! AS WITH ALL OLD HOLDERS, UPGRADE IS A DEFINITE POSSIBILITY!! What's an Old NGC Holder? The value in the older holders is that back when certification first started in the 1980's, dealers only submitted their very best coins for certification to increase their profit. If the coin was marginable they would rather keep it raw and clean or doctor it to try and maximize their return as cleaning wasn't such a bad thing back then. To add to the value, the certification companies were very conservative in their grading as they were trying to build credibility, so many of the coins were graded at less than the grade they would receive today. You don't see many of the old holders anymore because the dealers have already resubmitted the coins to profit from the upgrade. WOW! About the Morgan Silver Dollar: Interestingnote: George T. Morgan, formerly a pupil of William Wyon's inthe Royal Mint in London, designed the new dollar. His initial, M, is found at the bottom of the neck. It also appears on the reverse on the left-hand loop of the ribbon. ABOUT US At SMFM Coins we sell to private collectors and investors.
