We are pleased to offer a mounted antique sepia-toned photograph of the covered Cheshire Bridge in Charleestown, New Hampshire . It's hand-lettered in pencil script on the back, " Log Jam as ( at ) Chesshire ( Cheshire ) bridge 1892 / Charlestown, N.H .". The Cheshire Bridge, completed in 1806, was a wooden covered bridge, and all who crossed it paid a toll. Four-wheeled carriages were charged 25 cents, a horse and a rider six cents and pedestrians one cent. In 1896, the Springfield (Vermont) Electric Railway Company purchased it, and replaced the wooden covered bridge with a steel truss structure. The photo itself measures 4" by 6", and the matte is 6-1/2" by 8-1/2". It's in good condition, with some wear to the matte edges and areas of foxing/staining. A rare addition to a Charlestown, NH antique photograph memorabilia collection! The winning bidder pays shipping and insurance, if desired. Good luck, and thanks for looking!
