1892's Slaymaker-Barry Co Lock 1890's Slaymaker-Barry Co Lock/Padlock & Key WORKS EARLY Pre-1893 Patent Found in Lancaster County Estate Up for auction is a VERY EARLY Slaymaker-Barry Co Lock/Padlock & Key that works great. This lock style was patented in May 1893, and after that point was marked Pat May 93 on the arm, WELL THIS ONE IS PRIOR TO ADDING THE PATENT MARK -MAKING IT PRE-1893. It does have the S.B.Co in a diamond on the arm as well as a "1" and a "7". Out of an estate in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. We think it might have been one of the ones that the government ordered to lock mail boxes. It measures approx. 1 1/2" across. 2 1/4" from top to bottom. The Slaymaker Lock Company was founded in 1888 by Samuel C. Slaymaker Esquire’s great-grandfather, Samuel Redsecker Slaymaker. Born in 1866, Samuel R. Slaymaker attended Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster and then became a civil engineer with the Pennsylvania Railroad. In this capacity, he designed a large stone railroad bridge spanning the Conestoga River at the east end of Lancaster City that is still used as part of the main New York to Chicago line today.
