VERY RARE CORKSCREW

CHRISTOPHER COLUMBUS

1893 COLUMBIAN EXPOSITION SOUNEVIR

Up for auction is this fabulous and very rare antique corkscrew. It was a souvenir from the 1893 Columbian Exposition and commemorates the 400th anniversary of the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus in 1492. It is metal and is the figure of Christopher Columbus. It stands about 3" high and screws apart in the middle. The corkscrew slides out through the front and then you put the top back on. The end result is that the screw extends between Columbus's legs for a very risque effect. (see pics) Stamped on the back is Columbus Screw 1492, Chicago 1892 and Pat. Applied For. I have only seen 2 of these. One sold on auction last year for well over my starting price and the other is on ebay now but is missing the screw. This is the only complete one we could find after much searching and it is in remarkable condition. He is wobbly when standing,but has been kept in a hutch for many many years and is nice and clean with minimal wear. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
