This is an original 1893 chromolithograph of the Silver statue in the Montana exhibit at the Chicago World's Fair.Period Paper has obtained a wonderful set of chromolithograph prints of the 1893 Chicago World's Fair. The illustrations in this rare and lovely collection are from water color drawings by artist Charles Graham. These original images are excellent for framing. Charles Graham (1852-1911) Born in Rock Island, Illinois, Charles Graham was never formally trained as an artist, but was a self-taught painter, draftsman, and mapmaker. He worked as a topographer for the Northern Pacific Railroad in Montana and Idaho and later as a scenery painter in Chicago and New York City. He began work for Harper's Weekly magazine in 1877 and contributed many illustrations to the magazine. He was perhaps best known as the official artist of the Chicago World Columbian Exposition of 1893. The World Columbian Exposition was held from May to October 1893 in Chicago in honor of the 400th anniversary of Columbus' discovery of the new world. It was a spectacular display of progress and prosperity. Most of the fair's architecture was based on classical design which gave the area around the Court of Honor the name "The White City." There is a 1/2 inch tear in the left margin of the outer border; a moderate crease in the top right corner; and a 1.5 inch tear in the bottom left corner --please see image.FAI8 Year 1893 DUAL CERTIFICATES OF AUTHENTICITY.
