This auction is for an original copy of the 1893 book "The Firemen's Record", Featuring the District of Columbia Fire Department, this book chronicles the history of the department and it's volunteer roots. It has incredible accounts of historic fires and photos and stories of the heroism of DC firemen of the 19th century. You can almost smell the cinders and steam mixed with coal-burning steam engines pumping greased pistons. This books pages have been placed in page protectors as the binding no longer is present. The page protectors are held in order by a 3 ring binder. As you can see by the pictures, the book is readable and I will include a copy I had printed at Staples to read. The ad pages are placed behind the text and photo pages the way I purchased it. the ads This book is ULTRA-RARE and there are only about a dozen known to exist. The book was printed in DC only once, in 1893 to raise money for the families of fallen DC firemen as there was little or no help back then from the city government. The author sold ad space to pay for printing and some of ads are very unique. I will also include with your winning bid, a solid brass belt buckle featuring an engraved old door seal design of the DCFD.Look at the pictures and ask questions as I do not accept returns(especially on 100+ year old obsolete and extremely rare books). read more
