This is a very interesting oil on canvas painting. The country scene of an old family homestead is the subject of this piece which carries a lot of warmth, love and admiration. It is signed A.B.B. 93 (for 1893) and is framed in a very suitable Art Nouveau (1885-1915) frame in gold gilt. Not only is this oil on canvas painting so intriguing but when I purchased it, it came with photos of the actual homestead in Litchfield, NH which was entitled Zephyrsmeet (as you can see in the pictures) along with a photo of the artist who was Alverta Barrett. Accompanied with the photographs was a short letter about the homestead, the artist and the location of the home that still exists today. It says: Zephyrsmeet Barrett home in Litchfield, NH. Built by Timothy Barrett (1777-1858) in 1803. Father of Fredrick Barrett and grandfather of Alverta Barrett (1872-1960) who was born at Zephyrsweet August 12, 1872. Married Fredrick Barlow, June 22, 1892. She studied oil paintings and did this picture in 1893. The house is located 3 miles north of Gudson, NH of the west side of route 3A. The west bound of the property is the Merrimack River 2 miles from the highway, east bound is Londonberry, NH, mile from the highway. The house still exists. Signed Patricia Reid Mac Ritchie Granddaughter of Alverta B. Barlow. Very interesting
of course this painting would come with not only with the two photos (1 of the house and 1 of the artist) but also the written note by Alvertas Granddaughter. It measures 18 5/8w x 13 7/8h and the site size is 15 5/8w x 10 7/8h. The condition is very good with only one area of paint loss, very minute. Striving For Excellence It isnt brilliance or just getting the breaks, It is consistent attention to & honest respect for the Customer. Blue Dolphin Antiques 164 Atlantic Hwy Northport, Maine 04849 #
