PRIDE AND PREJUDICE. With a preface by George Saintsbury. Austen, Jane. Thomson, Hugh (Illus.). London: Macmillan and Co., Ltd. [George Allen], 1894. 1st Thomson Ed Classic stunningly bound copy of Jane Austen's legendary English work ' Pride and Prejudice,' bound in original publishers decorative 'Peacock design' dark green boards and spine, the gilt still nice and bright. An acceptable copy of the scarce first Thomson edition in an attractive binding. Hugh Thomson illustrated this work for George Allen publishers before going on to illustrate the other Austen books for Macmillan & Co. This is the scarcest of all the Thomson/Austen titles in first edition. Fully illustrated throughout with 101 fine engravings by Thomson. Gilt adorned boards with some edgewear, some threadwear, and splitting along edges of the spine cover (merely external), else fine. Shining gilt page edges. Hinges shaken yet intact, unmarked, leaves all bound and present minus front decorative EP, which is lacking. Slightly foxed. Slight lean to volume. 8vo.
