c.1895 HORSE AMPHITHEATRE DRAWING / EQUESTRIAN CIRCUS ORIGINAL HAND DESIGN / ARCHITECTURAL DRAWING OF AN EQUESTRIAN AMPHITHEATRE / CIRCUS / ARENA Offered here for your consideration is an original pen and ink draftsmans rendering of a near turn of the century horse amphitheatre. The date of the image, based on the art nouveau style of the hand lettering, is roughly 1890 - 1905 or so. The drawing bears a title caption in the upper margin that reads: PLAN AU NIVEAU DE LA LIGNE C-D PLAN AU NIVEAU DE LA LIGNE A-B These top margin captions likely indicate the 4 levels of the structure (A - D). The work measures 38 inches wide x 25 inches tall. It is drawn upon heavy weight paper - perhaps 40 lb ? and is quite stable to handle; not at all fragile. There is hand soiling to the outer margins and there are also various small chips and tears as shown in the images. Additionally, at some point, this image was pasted down upon another surface and remnants of the adhesive remain on the verso of the image. The image depicts various areas for staging and storing of horses prior, during and following their performance / showings. The labeled captions are in French which of course would suggest a French origin structure or architect or designer. I do not know specifically what structure this is beyond the fact that it is a horse amphitheatre. read more
