Below the picture an inscription reads: Park Lane. - Dudley House, at the north-western corner of Upper Brook Street, until recently the residence of the Earl of Dudley, was noted for containing a gallery of pictures of the Flemish and Italian schools. The collection formed here is described by Dr. Waagen (in 1835 as a very mixed one. He enumerates a few by Bellini, Francia, Cuyp, Ruysdael, etc., adding, "I looked in vain for the 'Three Graces,' by Raphael, which Passavant saw there." It is understood, however, that the present Earl has added considerably to his gallery. There are also several fine specimens of sculpture, including a "Venus," by Canova. In this house lived the eccentric Earl of Dudley, who died in 1833, and who was for some time Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs under Canning's Administration.
