Antique Tureen
Wow! This auction is for an absolutely gorgeous antique porcelain soup or punch tureen. It is enormous measuring about 17½" wide and 11½" tall. It is missing the lid and has some foxing or discoloration on the interior, but it is chip free and an amazing hand painted, ornate piece. The handles are figural sea serpents or fish and on the front and back t is a hand painted image of colonial or Victorian men and woman canoodling. T are very nice gold painted accents and it is just a wonderful old piece. The bottom is stamped Mettlach Villeroy Boch and it has a date from 1896. The base of the piece has a natural crack in the pottery that was t since the day it was made and it does not go all the way through (it can only be seen on the bottom). Despite the missing lid and minor flaws it is a very rare piece and makes a great display piece. It would make a great planter, vase or fruit bowl! The painting is signed H.Sch. which was Mettlach's master painter and artist. Very nice piece! Guaranteed original and old!
