Rare! 1896 2 Volume Set The Life And Letters of Charles Darwin Here is a very early two volume set of Charles Darwin that would be a fantastic addition to a collection! You are bidding on a set of two antiquarian hardcover books titled The Life and Letters of Charles Darwin. Including an Autobiographical Chapter. Edited by his son, Francis Darwin. You are bidding on the two volume complete set. This set was published by D. Appleton, 1896. On the publishing page, it says Authorized Edition. A great early set with illustrations! Books are quarter-bound in red leather with leather tips. There is some loss to the leather at top/bottom of spines (refer to picture). Pages very clean and tightly bound with no foxing. Features gilt top page end. Covers are firmly attached with no cracking of hinges. Books show corner wear and some general wear and tear. Small previous owner name and impressed stamp on first blank page. Overall, books are in good-plus condition. Early editions of Charles Darwin are scarce and very collectible. They are increasing in value rapidly. I would normally sell this set for $225 - $250. Because of the loss of the leather on the spines, I have reduced the price significantly.
