Up for your consideration today is fabulous bible from the 1897 era. It is printed strictly in German, with the only English wording regarding the publishing information. The publishing information reads St. Louis , Mo - Concordia Publishing House 1897. It further reads on the cover page that this bible entered according to Act of Congres, in the year 1892 by Concordia Publishing House, St. Louis , Mo in trust for the German Evangelical Lutheran Synod of Missouri, Ohio, and other states, in the office of the Librarian of Congress at Washington, D.C. It then goes into the german wording of the main body of the bible. On the first page inside the cover that is blank, there is handwritting on the page. I can't make out all of the words but what I can make out says "January 1898." Mr. ?harles lastname is ? - then something, possibly Boyne? Falls, Michigan and it is then signed something at the end that that I can't make out. The first letters of the handwriting is not common penmanship used today, at least not here on the West Coast but it does appear to be written in English. The first letter I can't make out could be a C or an F but I'm not sure? I do presume it is cursive? It's kind of neat to have that in the bible, as it adds some mystery to it. The bible is in fair-good condition. The pages are intact and are not falling out. read more
