Up for sale, we have a beautiful authentic morgan silver dollar! 1898 P Authentic Morgan Silver Dollar. This coin is Guaranteed to be Authentic!1898This relatively common coin can almost always be found in some quantity in mint condition. Rolls still trade occasionally and it is not rare to see bags exchanged. It is estimated that this date was not heavily melted as most other Morgan dollars. It is possible that as many as two million pieces out of the original mintage of 5,884,735 still exist. Because coin dealers feel that 5% of all of the 1898-P dollars they see are uncirculated, it is estimated that 100,000 Mint State coins survived. LaVere Redfield’s famous hoard of over 400,000 Morgan and Peace dollars contained “a few bags” of 1898-P specimens.The typical piece seen is boldly struck, sharper than the 1897-P and 1896-P. It is possible that this date was the best one ever to come out of Philadelphia. The luster is about average, and surface abrasions and rim nicks are about average. Due to this combination of visual characteristics, about 60% of the uncirculated coins are MS-65s. Gems are available in small quantities.Prooflike coins are no longer common for this date, although it is not unusual to see semi-PLs promoted as the fully prooflike item. Cameos are extremely rare, but fully prooflike brilliants can be found with only minor difficulty. The overall quality of these coins is mediocre due to the lack of brilliance and the lack of real depth in the fields. Even so, one of these specimens can cost three times the price of the MS-65 non-prooflike coin.(Information contained above is from James B.
