Up for auction is an antique German bisque doll with her original Swiss ethnic costume. The doll is 10 1/2" tall. She's all original and in wonderful condition. She comes with an original box and a paper that says: "Swiss Peasant owned by Anita H. Raymond""Swiss Peasant Doll brought from Switzerland in 1898 to my great aunt Anita H. Raymond" As you can see in the photos, the box is in very poor condition with many many tears and some water damage. She has no chips or cracks on her shoulder head and both bisque hands are free from chips or cracks also. Her costume is sewed on and I can't see her mold number or factory name, but I am almost positive she is an early Simon & Halbig open mouth doll with a mold number that is in either the 700s or the 900s. I can't guarantee it is S&H since I can't check it, but I think the collectors will agree with me just by looking at her sweet expression. In "Simon & Halbig Dolls' by Jan Foulke, the doll with a similar costume is shown on page 33 and it says "she appears to be a Simon & Halbig doll as she has many characteristics found on them." and it goes on to say: "Unfortunately, through the years many of these charming costumes have been destroyed as collectors removed costumes to dress dolls as little children.
