Up for auction is a beautiful 2 volume set on the French and Indian War during the mid 18th century. Loaded with full page engravings on heavy paper. "Montcalm and Wolfe" by Francis Parkman. Boston: Little, Brown and Company 1899- on title page (in Roman numerals). Over 1,000 pages total in the 2 volumes. Dozens of full page engravings and maps throughout. Beautiful fine bindings of blue cloth hardcovers lettered and decorated in gold. Top page edges gold gilt. Parkman considered this his best work. It is a very special work to say the least and is an important historical work. The book is on the French and Indian War and the leaders of the French and English forces- Montcalm and Wolfe. The books are in excellent condtion especially for being 110 years old- and what beautiful bindings. Very little wear to either binding. Both volumes are solidly bound with solid hinges inside and out. No torn pages. No foxing. No staining. Pages are clean and supple. No marks or writing. No names or bookplates.
