ANTIQUE FOLDING CANVAS WATER BUCKET DUPLEX WATER PAIL No. 12 Mfd. by The Planet Co. WESTFIELD, MASS USA Patent No. 638822 An antique folding canvas water bucket. The patent number dates this to ca 1899. It is chocolate brown in color with a lighter neutral color bottom. The frame is made of metal and it snaps into position stretching the canvas tight as a drum. T is a bail handle with black painted wood hand grip. The bucket measures 10" tall, 11" across the top and 9" wide across the bottom. Prepackaged weight is right about 1 lb. 13 oz. The bottom is marked (stenciled) "Duplex Water Pail - No. 12, Mfd. by THE PLANET CO., Patent No 638822, Westfield, MASS. U.S.A." SELECT A SAMPLE IMAGE TO ENLARGE. The bucket is old yet remains in great condition and still holds water. The material is strong and viable with no weak areas, holes or tears. T is typical edge wear especially around the areas stretched taut and stitched over the metal framework. The metal framework shows scratches and black paint loss. T is some surface rust to the bale handle. The wood grip has no chips or cracks. the bucket has a slight smell of livestock stables, but not musty or influenced by mildew. May have been used for oats or other feed? A little staining and soiling to the inside bottom but no grime. All original and in excellent overall condition.
