Extremely rare 1899 Peterson Patent magnum with gold filigree band and amber stem. The amber stem is broken, and the new owner should have a new stem made for this rare museum piece. 19th century Peterson Patent pieces are extremely rare and sought-after collectibles, and this pipe particularly so, as it is very large, measuring about 8" in length with a 3" tall bowl x 1.5" wide at top. The case is in good condition, but the upper hinge is coming loose. The bowl is in excellent shape, but the pipe should be sent to an expert for a full restoration. I have been collecting old Peterson pipes for over 25 years, and this is one of the rarest pieces I have ever seen. The pipe is stamped "Peterson's Patent" on the briar, and the case bears the old-style "Petersons Patent" stamped logo (versus an oval Petersons Patent label.) I cannot over-emphasize how few of these large, cased Patents have survived from the late 1800s. I am not expert with a camera, so bear with me on the pictures. The 2nd pipe in the photo is a 1901 Peterson house pipe bowl that should lend some perspective to the size of this pipe. After selling many of my lower grade Peterson Pre-Republics, I once again have far too many pipes. I will be selling a limited number of Patent pieces, cased sets, and cased individual Peterson pipes, as well as a number of rare Republic-era gold-banded Supremes and several high-grade straight-grain Peterson Handmades with natural color. Please ask questions prior to bidding; I don't like sending valuable, old pipes back & forth across the country. Please email with any questions at
