1899 General Telegraph and Mining Code Book McNeill's Code Exceedingly Scarce in HB " McNeill's code; arranged to meet the requirements of mining, metallurgical and civil engineers, directors of mining, smelting and other companies ..." Seldom if ever seen in original 1899 Hardback this is the stated 1899 mining telegraph code book used to interpret telegrams related to the gold and silver mining industry at the turn of the last century. Telegraph operators in remote mine regions used this book to send coded messages to the stock brokers back east. The curb brokers learned about mine developments in exciting gold regions like Cripple Creek, the Yukon or Dawson and Goldfield - Bullfrog - and Rhyolite Nevada during the telegraphic boom years up to the Panic of 1907 before the telephone came into general use. Also includes a fold-out map of land and marine telegraph cables in use by 1899 and some great adverts for example "Bornhardt's patent Electrical Firing Machine for Firing Blasting Charges in Mines Quarries etc" The book is in VG condition if somewhat fragile. Some distortion to the front board and toning to pages but nothing drastic (see pic). Binding is intact, no markings or annotations, contents very clean and bright. Historic book.
