CARVED CORAL BROOCH The Nightingale and the Moon" From the early 1960's, this beautiful, hand carved, natural colored coral is set into a custom made 18KT yellow gold brooch mounting. The carved coral is most likely earlier in age, depicting a nightingale and the moon. The brooch is bench made with cast/constructed techniques. It is set with 10 pcs. of accent quality diamonds, with an approximate weight of .25-.30 CTTW. This is a stunning piece, thick, with beautiful detail and craftsmanship...in difficult to locate NATURAL color... During the Romantic era poets viewed the nightingale not only as a poet in his own right, but as “master of a superior art that could inspire the human poet”. The brooch measures approximately 2 5/8" x 2 1/8". The carved coral measures approximately 2 3/8" x 7/8". This sale includes current insurance replacement appraisal.
