18 th /19 th Century Hand HammeredMediterranean Round Jar This is a wonderful hand hammered and crafted water storage vessel from the southern Mediterranean . Dates from the middle 18 th century to the early 19 th century. Very unusual round shape due to the difficulty of making this shape (I have never seen a round vessel this well made). The body was made in four pieces. The two bottom pieces are hand hammered strips made circular with overlapping vertical braized seams and then braized with horizontal seams to the one piece top shoulder and base. The neck was made separately and braized to the body and has a flanged rim. Exquisite aged patina with a number of braized repairs from centuries of use. Dimensions: Height 5 inches (12.5 cm), Diameter (widest point) 5 3/8 inches (13.5 cm), Foot Diameter 4 1/16 inches (10.4 cm), Rim Diameter 1 7/8 inches (4.7 cm).
