18th century copper canteen. Size is 5 " in diameter and almost 2 " wide. This piece was bought by Rad Curdy in 1967 in Wappingers Falls N.Y. at auction which had items from Fishkill N.Y.. Fishkill did have a large Rev. War site which Rad and I dug way back in the very early 1970's. Written on the brown paper bag (( in Rad Curdy's writting )) " Copper Rev. War canteen purchased 1967/1968 at Wappingers Falls auction from Fishkill. Supersize the photos and read the information as to w Rad found this early item.(( VERY hard to read )). This piece has damage and someone started to grind down some of the solder on corner side. ( see photo ) I also do not see any " copper " showing through this piece and it weights 12.5 ozs. on a post office scale. I have only seen wooden canteens and not any metal ones like this piece, but could this be a tin and not a copper canteen ? This and many more items I will be listing on E-Bay belonged to Radford Curdy (1935-2002) of Dutchess County N.Y.. Rad was a very well know historian, author, genealogist and noted archeologist in the Mid-Hudson Valley of New York. He was also a recognized authority on Colonial and Revolutionary history. I am not a dealer and had know Rad Curdy from the early 1970's as we both had a very deep interest in the Rev. War. (( NO reserve and VERY low starting bid )). Please feel read more
