This is one of the best chairs to be on ebay in a very long time. A period William and Mary, American Bannisterback chair in TIGER MAPLE!!! This chair is probably from the area of Eastern CT or Rhode Island. The shape of the nicely carved crest is indicative of that area, and that is w they tended to use tiger maple. This chair is all original, the slats, stretchers and seat lists are original. The seat is about 30-40 years old but it still is in very good shape and will give you another 30 or 40 years. The surface is an old refinish, no doubt to show off the use of the tiger maple. It is getting harder and harder to find even a plain bannisterback chair anymore, but to find one in this condition in the rarest of all woods is quite a find. Tiger maple was not used for chairs because it was extremely hard to turn on a lathe. Usually the wood would split and splinter. You see it on chests and desks w you can flat cut it but it is extremely rare on a chair. The only other condition issue is that t is an old line crack on the left front leg. The chair is still strong and tight. This great chair stands just over 41". The seat height is 15-16" and is 18" across. Typical wear associated with the age of the item. Low starting Price and NO reserve. Insurance is included in shipping charges. Shipping will be USPS $85.00 which will include packaging and insurance.
