REDUCED STARTING BID I bought this 6-7 years ago as the "anchor" of a collection intended to include something from each century of America's history. Reportedly, it was recovered from Boston Harbor and is from the 18th century. It measures 12 inches from top to bottom, 81/2 inches across the anchor points and 9 inches across the "T" bar. For proportion, the ring is 2 3/4 inches in diameter, In 1627 Captain John Smith published "A Sea Grammer" which listed the different types of anchors carried by ships at that time. The Kedge Anchor was noted by him as the smallest of the anchors used in calm water, however that was still on a large sailing vessel. Built in the Kedge style, the treasure offered here was probably mounted on a Dory and used by an independent fisherman. Hard to find another collectible from this early in the Nation's history at such a reasonable price, This makes a really neat desktop or display shelf treasure for any office. I have this for sale locally and reserve the right to end the auction early.
