As the weather get warmer and Spring blossom begin to add bright color to the winter bleak landscape, Sankaat is pleased to present for your consideration this circa 1770 Chinese Export Porcelain Famille Rose (Mandarin) Chinese Export Porcelain Cann / Mug! Although our twenty-first century eyes would look at this large cup and probably deem it a tankard (or big mug), in the eighteenth century large mugs like this were known as Canns (Cans), and only tankards if it had a lid. This Mandarin style famille rose cann is decorated with under glaze and enameled decorations. This piece measures 4.75 inches tall by 5.5 inches wide. Its condition is very good; with some wear to the enameling and gilding, a very tight hairline that extends from the rim and a few shallow chips to the underside flat porcelain base. This Cann would be ideal for the serious Chinese Export Porcelain Collector or for the 18th Century Enthusiast who appreciates the elegant balance of style and taste shown on wares created during this period!
