The sitter's features and clothing are exquisitely rendered and are clearly the work of a major hand - the face with all the elements associated with Dahl - the almond eyes and the soft complexion. The painting is executed on an impressive scale and is a very fine example of the society portraits of the early 18th century. A wonderful early portrait painting. Condition The painting is in very fine condition; the canvas lined in the 20th century, clean, most attractive and ready to hang. The painting is presented in a very fine carved wood and gilt composite frame, the frame is in very good condition with only minor imperfections. Examination under ultra violet reveals scattered restorations and light touching in which has been carried out to a high professional standard.
