1770"s 1 lobed plate. Very decorated. Fabrique de Clignancourt. 9-3/4" DIAM This factory was founded by Pierre Deruelle in 1771, although he did not apply for permission to do so until 1775. It was under the protection of MONSIEUR, THE KING'S BROTHER WHO WAS LOUIS-STANISLAS-XAVIER, Comte de Provence, later to become Louis XVIII. The factory passed at an unknown date into the hands of Deruelles's son-in-law, de Moitte. Porcelain made here was of extremely good quality, rivalling that of Sevres. It is said that an atempt was made to use the Sevres royal monogram with an added coronet, but that 3,000 pieces were confiscated by the police in 1779, Deruelle being heavily fined for his prsumption. The first mark was a windmill, alluding to the windmills of Montmartre near by. Later the letter 'D" surmounted by a coronet has been recorded, as well as an 'M' (for Monsieur or Moitte) also surmounted by a coronet. Much of the decoration was of polychrome flower-sprays, with some landscapes. George Lamprecht, a Viennese painter who alternated between Vienna and Paris and spent some years at the Sevres factory, painted landscapes in a brownish-yellow monochrome. Gilding was of good quality, and was sometimes used as the sole ornament. This plate is unusual due to the shape. It is not the usual chantorine. This particular plate belonged to a service intended for a member of the elite, it has a coronet of roses above the initials ROV. I am thinking that the production of this particular piece was in the 1770's due to amount of decoration and comparing it to the fashion of that period where the skirts were so wide, the hair so tall and everything was very outre!! Condition: There is a slither on the backside of the plate which can be seen in #3. Nothing can be seen from the front and it is an excellent display. Some of the gilding has worn on the face. However, the painting is intact and the monogram very clear. Please email me with any questions and requests for additional images. I have collected for quite a few years, and I have not seen a decorated plate such as this. Thank you Reason for selling ......Just downsizing and going in a different direction. paypal only. No returns.
