This beautifully hand coloured 18th Century map of the World in Hemispheres, published by famous cartographer Rapin, circa 1730-40, is an excellent example of early copperplate engraving. The charting from Australia to Alaska as well as the Pacific area is inaccurate as a result of the lack of exploration prior to Captain James Cooks Voyages of Discovery. The map finely details the routes of earlier explorers---including Magellans, whose crew was the first to circumnavigate the Earth. The exquisite colouring and surrounding text complement this rare and desirable example of the cartographers art and will be an outstanding addition to a collection or the first of many to come! Please email us if you would like to see additional pictures and/or the Certificate of Authenticity. Includes museum quality framing. Map image is 17"x26", frame measures 32"x39.
