Please note, we have a very large collection of additional images of this piece available for your enjoyment below. Description:This listing is for an Early Jacobean Style Solid Oak Gate Leg Dining Table, appearing to be late 18th Century, possibly early 19th century. It is a remarkable piece and remains in outstanding structural condition. The entire piece opens up from a well proportioned hall table into a full size dining table. The top is composed of thick broad oak planks, each carefully hand shaped with evident carving throughout the rounded edges. The planks used to be locked together using handcrafted wrought iron brackets, now missing. The table top is locked into the frame with the original wooden pegs, as well as screws locking it in from beneath - the heavy oak leaves hang with what appear to be fully original iron hinges. A deep patina glows throughout the surface of the table, with near black levels of oxidization throughout. The frame of the table locks together with tenon mortise pegged construction, original pegs still in place. The table frame holds two solid oak drawers on either side. Each drawer is of 17th century build, with the drawer locking together using nails along the sides. A tear drop hand crafted pull rests on each drawer, appearing to be original, or at least hand crafted for the piece at a later date. The frame rests over numerous broad turned legs, each with thick stretchers that permanently lock the legs in place. The legs swing easily outward, pivoting on iron pins built into the frame and through the swinging legs. The delightful hand craftsmanship dances all over this piece - from tiny rosehead nails securing obscure pieces, to carvings that are not smoothed, and uneven hand turnings. The table has the slightly uneven wavy surface evident of the entire top being planed by hand. This is a stunning piece and the only of it's kind we've found in this complete condition. We'd ask that you carefully review photos for verification age and the period of the piece, as we are not experts in Jacobean form or 17th century revivalism. For any specific questions, we absolutely can take additional photographs for better clarification. Measurements: 55" long by 17" wide (in dropped position) by 29" high. Leaves measure 21" by 55" Condition: Visually Good Condition - Inactive pest damage throughout, some creating significant deterioration, but does not seem to be visually detracting. Splits and dings throughout; minor separations between boards. Missing iron hand crafted brackets to keep board tops together, though this has not resulted in any destabalization of the table. Feet of the table are all replaced additions. Hinges appear to be original. Tear drop pulls appear to be original to the piece. Repairs, including lip of one leaf over the hinges. Stains and abrasions here and there throughout. Shipping : Local pickup is free, and you are always welcome to select your own shipping service.
