Please note, we have a very large collection of additional images of this piece available for your enjoyment below. Description:This listing is for an 18th Century Queen Anne Solid Mahogany Slipper Foot Drop Leaf Sofa Table. It features some of the finest selections of solid mahogany planks available, with the top being a single broad board with flaming grains throughout, and both leaves being two board solid leaves. Though they are two board leaves, the second board is quite small in dimensions, and the breadth of the leaf is composed of a single board. If you look closely at the pictures, you can identify where the two interchange. It is a stunning piece, sitting over an oval carved apron and locking into carved cabriole legs. Each leg is topped by a carved embelishment, before dropping down with unusually strong cyma form knees. These terminate into pointy pad feet, delicately finishing the piece. The frame is a fully dovetailed structure, composed of oak and pine secondary woods. The top was removed at one point, hinges removed and then placed back together - this was likely done when it was refinished. At that point, the original blocking inside the frame was removed but not replaced, leaving only remnants of the glue and bits of block inside. Most screws were replaced with more modern screws. The hinges appear to be fully hand forged originals, or at least period replacements, though the screws were replaced with more modern replacements. The touch of the original craftsman is all over this entire piece, with knicks and dings from the blade all over, particularly in the less visible areas. The level of oxidization is fantastic, with an intense patina throughout glowing and protected. This is a stunning 18th Century piece of craftsmanship and art, with a serene sense of form and grace. Measurements: 40 3/4" long by 14 1/2" deep by 28" high (closed position) Leaf dimensions: 15 1/2" and 16 5/8" Condition: Visually Outstanding Condition - Minor spotting on surface resting on wax finish; removable with pressure from your fingernail. Repairs to table throughout, including obvious repairs to leg. One foot with significant loss in a clean cut - should be relatively easy for a professional to replicate. Of the two dowels inside the swinging leg joint, one dowel iron (probably original), one wooden. One leg joint with split inside; does not limit motion, but makes leg frail and if not reinforced could break at a later date. Loss to lip of one leaf at joint where top and leaf meet. One knee carving broken off - not visually notable or detracting, as it is inside and covered by leaves in dropped position. Refinished, but old refinish - heavily polished. Wear to feet. Dings and abrasions throughout, most of which are not visually detracting, and most of which should be easily visible in the 71 images below. Please see photos below for full disclosure of condition and condition report. Shipping : Local pickup is free, and you are always welcome to select your own shipping service.
