Up for bid is a nice 18th mahogany tall case clock . My research lead me to believe it to be a New Jersey or Pennsylvania piece. I'm sure you clock experts will know more than I. The movement is complete and in working condition. The face is painted on iron and has no makers marks. I bought this from an elderly gentleman during a recent visit to the eastern shore of Maryland. He said it was from N.J. and dated it around 1780. The Arabic and Roman numbers on the face seem to bear this out, since that was in vogue during that period. The pendulum is made of cast iron and is hand painted in a design that resembled a Pa. hex sign. The case, is in need of reassembly. It is not broken or damaged and when assembled it will stand about 7' tall. The top section has an old age crack on each side. They follow the grain of the wood. I'm not sure that's a big deal when considering a 200+ yr. old piece. I believe all the pieces are t except the filigree carved overlay that was mounted between the the clock face and the arched pediment. As you can see, some restoration work was begun on the case. This was the previous owners handiwork. I must add, he did a very good job of it. I did not get weights with this clock and have none to provide. Also missing are the key escutchions and hinges for the mid section door. This is admittedly a project piece but in the right hands can be a spectacular clock once more. This item is located in Middletown N.J. and must be picked up. I will not ship it. Please be advised, I'm offering this item with a $500.00 reserve. The E Bay reserve link would not work after numerous attempts. Inside t are two paper stickers. One is that of William A. Heine, a 20th century Philadelphia clockmaker. The other is from the North British Railway, Edinburgh. Apparently, this clock spent some time over t The railway company was in existence from 1860 till 1923. I'm fairly certain that this clock predates that time period.
