Nice collection of three 18th c English boxwood Apothecary Measures. The surfaces are all nicely patinated from years of use and handling. The walls are all beautifully turned very thin. The largest size, I have been led to understand is the hardest to come by, and considered relatively scarce. They are overall in excellent condition with only some minor condition issues which must be mentioned for the sake of accuracy. The largest measure has a shrinkage hairline on the side of the larger bowl. It appears to be superficial and does not go through. The middle cup does have a hairline on the side of the bigger bowl and a small inclusion on the edge of the bowl which may have occurred in manufacturing. The surfaces bear only gentle scuffs and abrasions considering these finely turned objects were used commercially. The side of the bowl of the larger measure is stamped "8S" An interesting side note is that early collectors once thought the small measures were egg cups for quail eggs. I kid you not. I will begin this auction at .99, as is my custom. There is no reserve. In other words, a real auction in the truest sense of the word. Please take a moment to peruse my other items of related material. I will endeavor to accommodate requests for consolidated shipping and answer any and all questions to the best of my ability.
