ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPT LEAF FROM "GARDEN OF ROSES" BY SAADI The original description sheet dates it at the late 18th century. The entire leaf measures 8 1/8" X 5 11/16". The scene is 2 7/8" X 2 5/8". On glazed paper and the scene is highlighted in gold. From the Otto F. Ege collection. Mr. Ege was an illuminated manuscript collector in the 1930s and he took the leaves from 50 of his manuscripts and made 40 sets in large mats with the descriptions. Most sets were sold to libraries and museums. This one is numbered 10 and is from a private collection. When I obtained it, it was in the original very large mat and impossible to store so I discarded the mat. It has two small pieces of linen tape on the back which Mr. Ege used to attach to the mat. Otherwise the leaf is in VG+ condition with no chips or tears. No soiling or stains and no marks. Looks like the original untrimmed size as taken from the manuscript. Has very light wrinkling which is probably as it was taken from the manuscript by Mr. Ege. (see all 11 pictures) Will be shipped in a padded box.
