This is a most stunning and quite superb carved gothic wooden walnut heraldic panel with the relief carving of the winged cherubs, gargoyles, scottish thistles, shell and other intricate carvings of which: During our research we have been informed it dates from the gothic period of the 18th century and is of scottish origin . Dates about c1780. Text to the top and at the base. "Remember true to the end" to the top with to the base: Home of Welderburne. Welderburne and the heraldic logo relate to the scottish castle of the same area. Dates certainly from the 18th century. Certainly a quite superb relief carved wooden panel with: The heraldic emblem to the top with the eagles and unicorn with the central shield. To the sides, top and bottom, the winged cherubs sitting on the leaves. Four winged gargoyles. To the base, the shell carving with two more winged cherub carvings. Also two horses with the trumpet vase bodies with the side decoration rising from. Centrally a frame with scottish thistles, roses and leaf carvings . Carved in relief, therefore a one piece carved panel with the quite stunning and intricate carvings. It has an overall size of about 27.25 x 15inches. max depth of about 1.25inches.
