This is a very old statue. These were made between 1870 and 1910, and were first related to the touring wild west shows of the late 1800's, right around the turn of the century. Famous wild west figures, like Calamity Jane, Wild Bill Hickock and Buffalo Bill Cody, would tour the country, mostly in the east, and pretend to fight "indians" and kill buffalo. Souvenirs, like carnival prizes, were sold at these shows and this is one of them. Later, Ansonia and a few other antique clock companies, also made these figures as a clock toppers, but this is the earlier casting. This is a very old casting, you can tell by the fact it was cast in many pieces and braized together afterwards and by the steam holes to let out heat in the foundry scattered around the horse (under his tail, under his legs, around his neck). This measures over 10 inches tall and over 9 inches long, and weighs 3 pounds. It is in amazingly good condiiton. This was probably originally finished in gold paint, most were, and probably was repainted at some time in it's life, most were, but right now only traces of any gold paint remain and you see the metal and it has a great patina.
