1900 Mormon Reunion Saltair Pavilion CE Johnson Photo This is a very nice scarce original vintage real photo stereoview of the famous Saltair Beach Pavilion on the Great Salt Lake near Salt Lake City Utah. This is not a litho print, but a sharp continuous tone image on photographic paper mounted on board. The card has a handwritten (in the negative) caption "Saltair Beach Pavilion 300k Johnson". The banner on the Pavilion advertises the "Mutual Improvement Re-Union July". The year is not visible, but I assume this to be from about 1900 based on the peoples clothing. The Saltair Pavilion was completed in 1893. It was jointly owned by the Mormons and the Salt Lake and Los Angeles Railroad Company, which served the area. This structure was destroyed by fire in 1925, but served as a popular destination in the west during its 32 years of existence. It was intended to be a "Coney Island" atmosp, with a ballroom, amusement rides, the beach, and concessions. Charles Ellis Johnson was present for many of the important events that were held in Salt Lake City. He is well known for his photographs of the Mormon Tabernacle. A very nice shot taken in about 1900. Condition good as shown in photos (some staining visible in left hand image). Winning bidder to pay $2.50 shipping and handling for USPS First Class Shipping.
