You are bidding on a very nice Rookwood vase in a matte vellum glaze. The color is kind of a speckled light olive brown or tan with a darker almost purple brown top. T is an autumn leaf patteren impressed around the bottom 2 1/2 inches of the vase and the leaves are in shades of maroon and green. It is very pretty.
The vase stands 7 1/4" tall, is 2" wide at the mouth, flares out to 3" at the widest point and then narrows down to 2 1/4" at the base. The glaze is in very nice condition. T are two factory irregularities that I want to point out. The first is a line in the purple/brown glaze around the neck that lets the olive/brown glaze show through. The second is a spot on the very bottom lip w no olive/brown glaze was placed leaving the light clay showing through. It is about 8:00 o'clock on the picture of the bottom marks. Both look to be from the factory. I cleaned the vase with acetone to make sure t were NO repaired cracks or chips. The glaze does NOT have any crackling or crazing. T are no chips around the mouth or on the bottom. I would say this vase is just the way it came from the factory except that Inside the vase is some sort of florist clay sticking to the walls. I will leave that up to you to clean out if you want to. Does not affect the outside. The vase is signed by Sallie E Coyne on the bottom. Also impressed on the bottom is the Reverse R P with the 14 flames surrounding the letters. T is an impressed V which means the clay body is one normally used with Vellum Glaze. A Z is impressed which was used to identify matte or mat glaze pieces produced between 1900 and 1904. The shape number 90 is also impressed on the bottom as well as the size letter F. I am not a dealer in Rookwood so please ask many any question you have about the vase. I have researched out what I have stated above. This is a very nice, desireable vase and it is SIGNED.
