In a very decorative cover, an interesting 'Adventure' story, and a rare and very collectible title, by the well known Victorian artist and world-wide traveller Edward Roper F.R.G.S., who although born in England, emigrated at a young age with his family to Canada, and in later life lived and painted variously in Canada, Australia and the Pacific Islands, and back in England. The Publisher's blurb states: "The adventures, perils, and experiences of some shipwrecked persons on this ice-bound island are graphically described, the book affording capital reading and much information on the natural and physical conditions of life in this northern region". - This is the story of two young lads, George and Sid,who are passengers aboard a barque traveling from England to Quebec in advance of their families, which becomes ice-bound in the St. Lawrence river, they decide to slip away by boat at night to escape the privations imposed by a drunken Captain and Mate, and end up shipwrecked on Anticosti island.
