1900’sNister Christmas Dinner Postcard ~ Monks Boar’sHead Carol ~ Queen’s College, Oxford · Original Antique Post Card ~ this is NOT a Reproduction · Measures: approximately 3-1/2” x 5-1/2” · FREE Shipping within the United States Take a step back in history and view this Antique (100+ year old) Christmas holiday postcard. This postcard was printed in Bavaria . It was printed by Ernest Nister (London) and it was published by E.P. Dutton & Co. (New York). The back indicates the number of this postcard is “No. 1441” . “A Merry Christmas” is printed in the top left side of the postcard. This postcard features two Monks carrying out the Queen’s College Boar’s Head tradition. One Monk is holding a Dinner serving platter with a Boar’s (Wild Pig) Head decorated with green holly leaves & red berries. As this Monk walks, some of the holly falls off the plate. Another Monk is carrying a large plate, serving utencils (folk and knife). Printed between the monks is the following from the Boar’s Head Carol: “The boar’s head in hand bear I, Bedecked with bays and rosemary, And I pray you, my Masters, be merry.” Old Carol Sung in Queen’s College, Oxford.” Read below for information about the Boar’s Head Carol.
