This is a 19 th century American sterling server, most likely what was called a Johnny Cake server made by William Gale of New York. The sterling standard, it has the most beautiful hand etching of flowers and ferns circled by diamonds in the scalloped edge. The handle is twisted for strength, the terminal is etched with what may be a pinecone or possibly a pineapple, the international symbol of hospitality. It is monogrammed, and there is a bit of damage in the form of a small bend to the very end of the terminal. Unfortunately, this bend has resulted in a tight, roughly 3/8-inch long crack that is hard to see, but you can feel with your fingernail if you run it across the surface. Toward the edge it gets a bit bigger, but is still tight. It is 8-1/2 inches long. Not overly heavy, but the most beautiful work of art in that bowl.(CONSIDER PHOTOS FOR COMPLETE VISUAL DESCRIPTION.)Cowhootie's is all about an eclectic selection-- Chinese, Irish, English, French, or American, and, sometimes stuff that is just plain fun.We sell everything from linens to silver, couture to antique costume, porcelain to exquisite jewelry. We hope you enjoy looking and shopping.BEFORE YOU BID, Please read the following--Paypal users must provide a shipping address that is confirmed to their account.
