The 1901 is one of my favorite coins in the Morgan series. The reason is simple: it is fast becoming one of the harder coins to find and everthing I see in the market tells me it is undervalued right now, given the population available to collectors. You'd be pressed to find a better investment than say a hundred circulated 1901 Morgans in decent condition like this one. In a handful of years you'd see the value go up by a factor of maybe 3 or 4 times your cost. That's how difficult they are getting to find. Most Morgan collectors have a circulated coin in this slot. That's because higher grade coins have become so expensive in this date. Much of the mintage from 1901 was melted in 1918, and the surviving population of coins available today is far less than the average date and shrinking. A really nice 1901 Morgan is an exceptionally difficult find. Much of the mintage (6.9 million) in this date was melted in 1918, and the demand for coins in this date far outstrips the supply. Those in higher grades are simply priced out of reach of most collectors, as in $15 large ones for a MS 63. Even a strong AU example, say in AU 55, will cost $600-$700. This one has been both scanned and photographed to give you the best views; it's certainly not anyw close to MS 63, in both quality or cost. But it's quite decent, with solid rims and full hairlines. It makes a reasonable and quality example of this date...one w higher grade coins can get way too expensive for the average collector. It does appear to have been cleaned at some point. In a real sense, a circulated 1901 is more of an investment than an addition to your collection. T will always be a strong demand for a rather nice Morgan in this date. As the price of higher grade 1901 coins keeps moving up, one like this will always have an eager buyer who needs one for their set but like most of us can't pop for that kind of coin to get one. Don't be surprised if this very coin is worth a couple hundred bucks in a few short years. A 1901-P gets increasingly harder to find with each passing month. FREE SHIPPING makes it an even better value ! All my Morgans ship at no charge....and they get t in a hurry. See comments in my feedback on how quickly I get your coin to your mailbox. Thanks for looking : - ))
