This is a museum quality, M-1902 Corps of Engineers Capt coat and trousers grouping, which includes knots and aiguilette. The coat is dated 1910 and named to Capt R.B. Small. It is in impeccable condition. There is minor fraying to the bullion collar, consistent and not surprising with 100 year old material. The coat has engineer buttons, but the buttons on the knots are eagle buttons. I have closely examined the coat and can find no moth holes, nips, tears, rips, or anything that might detract from the overall and minute examination, The bullion on the cuffs is exqusite; there is very minor fraying to the area on both cuffs just above the cuff stripes. I have tried to depict it in the close up photos. It looks as if 4-5 threads from the underside have poked through. The trousers date from 1938 and are named to Capt. A.L. Lane. A very close examinition of the trousers reveals them to be in excellent condition, too. There is one pinhead hole in the seat where the pants were let out, and one pinhead hole along the front right press, mid calf. The original owner of this grouping, a long-time M-1902 collector, has said the trousers were worn in this exact style and material since 1902; the style was withdrawn in 1938. The original owner has never seen another M-1902 COE capt's coat and trousers in decades of collecting M-1902 uniforms.
