This tough date gets tougher every year - and more expensive too. I always suggest that true Morgan collectors purchase the best coin they can afford in dates like this one. It will be a superior investment. If you can find a MS65 for example, purchase it. It will cost around $12 grand but in a handful of years it will likely double in value. Same with a blazing MS63. It will run a bit over $6,000 but you'd be hard pressed to find a better place to park that kind of money over the next 3-5 years. No hesitation - I think you'll see a huge gain in the value. Even a 1903-S in AU55, worth about $2,500, will turn into $5 grand rather quickly. This date is getting a lot of respect for what it is....a semi-key date with a noticeable scarcity of coins in all grades and one that is rapidly moving up the charts in both cost and difficulty. The one below has been both scanned and photographed. No mint state luster in this coin - and no price tag like one either. It shows it's share of circulation to be sure. Yet it also shows some nice detail on both sides. The rims are decent and the surface is natural, with an attractive classic grey color and a hint of the luster that was built-in by the S mint. This listing lets you put an investment-grade 1903-S in your set. And you'll see it increase nicely in value due to the demand for coins
