Offered for auction is a 16" bayonet for a 1903 Springfield rifle (it will also fit an M1 Garand rifle). The bayonet is dated "1918" and was manufactured at Springfield Armory. The serial number is 1004130. The blade has not been sharpened. The finish appears to be a very dark blue/black. This blade has a beautiful blue/black finish, which was probably done at manufacture or shortly after, not the crude finish done during WWII. The grips are in good condition, having only one minor chunk by the guard. T is good evidence of the cutter marks on the grips. About 90+ finish remains. The scabbard is a M1917, which was substitute standard. It has the green painted finish found on these scabbards. A very few minor scratches on the leather and the metal is in excellent condition. The GHY inspector markigs are present in the body of the scabbard.A very nice example of a late WWI black/blue finished bayonet with substitute standard scabbard. Please!
