1904 St. Louis Worlds Fair Zither Harp Autoharp Mandolin This antique guitar zither was specially produced for the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, Louisiana Purchase Exposition by Menzenhauer & Schmidt. It features the "Special" cameo and title of the Palace of Varied Industries, and is marked Special St. Louis 1904. Ornate decals around the center hole. Jersey City 36-59 Ferry St. Berlin Spittelmarkt, No. 2. It measures 19-1/4" long, and 13" wide. It comes in a wood case just as it was found in an estate. It appears to be in good condition overall. Sturdy, solid, still playable (needs tuned and a string added) . T is a wire inside the lid of the case, not sure if this is a music holder but it fits in the two small holes that are on the top just above the string pins. T is rubs, flakes, and wear to the finish. Two small surface holes (do not go all the way through) on the back side. The gold accented decals are still vivid, sharp and have a nice sheen. Outer wood case is intact still but rough with wear. It has no markings. It's not often that these "Special" edition musical instruments show up due to lower, limited production numbers.
