World's Fair and Olympics Collectors This auction is for one original unused “Certificate of Attendance” (16315) from the "Louisiana Purchase Exposition" or "Universal Exposition",also known as the 1904 World’s Fair. The Fair was held in St. Louis , Missouri from April 30 th 1904 through December 1 st 1904 and as stated on the certificate the Fair was “to commemorate the acquisition by the United States of the Territory of Louisiana " in 1803. The Exposition was to mark the 100 year anniversary of this purchase, but was delayed one year until 1904. The 1904 Summer Olympics, (Games of the III Olympiad), were held in St. Louis on the fairgrounds in conjunction with the 1904 World's Fair. The fifty cent Fair admission fee (or ticket) also provided admission the the Olympic events. These were the first Olympics held in the United States and the first Olympic games to award Gold, Silver and Bronze medals to the 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishers. Many of the Olympic events were held in the stadium, on the fairgrounds which is now "Francis Field" on the campus of Washington University in St. Louis, from July 1904 to November 1904. This certificate was the "Official Certificate of Attendance" of the Fair and was also used by attendees to the 1904 Summer Olympics. The certificate is 12.5 inches wide and 9.5 inches high.
