Extremely rare scorebook for the April 18, 1904 game between the New York Highlanders and the Philadelphia Athletics at Hilltop Park . It was just the second season in franchise history for the Highlanders and this program is for the 4 th game of the season. Taking the mound for the Highlanders was Jack Chesbro who would win an amazing 41 games in 1904. His pitching adversary that day was another great hall-of-fame pitcher – Chief Bender. The program is neatly scored for the first 8 innings. Bender and the A’s defeated the Highlanders 5 to 1 with the New Yorkers managing a run finally in the 9 th inning. Both Bender and Chesbro are indicated as starting pitchers on the program. Overall the program is in near EX condition and overall pretty clean. The spine is 100% intact. There is a diagonal crease on the back cover as shown in scans. There is also some very minor border tears on the bottom of the program to the front and back cover. The middle scorecard section is made of heavier cardboard than the interior pages. It has come loose from the staples and separated at the spine. The scorecard section also has one chip on the corner that you can see in the scan. A very tough to find program. Please email any questions or for additional or close-up pictures.
