This auction is for an interesting antique scrapbook-photo album that was recently found at a local estate sale. Its large and contains hundreds of entries so Iâe(tm)ll describe what I think are the highlights. T are maps and menus from the Alaska Steamship Company, beautiful pamphlets with the titles, âeoeAlaska Totem Polesâe, âeoeAlaska Via Totem Pole Routeâe, âeoeAlaska Indian Basketryâe, and âeoeThe Alaska Indian Mythologyâe. Tâe(tm)s over 200 original photographs, at least 14 of which show totem poles, others show the towns of Sitka, Juneau, Treadwell, Wrangell, Russian architecture, halibut fishing, mining, buffalo, Yellowstone. Even camels at the Lewis and Clark Exposition (which is also given a lot of space in this scrapbook). The railroad is well represented throughout this collection with menus and pamphlets, Canadian Rockies, fold-out maps, glaciers and park emblems. Most of the images are identified with a white ink with a victorian style. This book has no cover, a few of the pamphlets are separating from their staples, t are some creases and everything is glued to the black paper pages. That said, this album doesnâe(tm)t have insect damage, a bad smell and Iâe(tm)ve removed nothing. Its probably a very scarce artifact from a remarkable 1905 excursion. Also worth mentioning is a hymnal entitled, âeoeMetlakahila Alaska Church Manualâe, which has hymns in english and a native tongue. Low reserve on this very unusual piece of history.
