Circa 1908-1909 THE GRISWOLD, Eastern Point, NEW LONDON, CONN. W.J. Fleming, Mgr. "Stet Fortuna Domus" WINES This listing is for an old paper wine menu from the long gone Griswold Hotel which was once located in New London, Groton, Connecticut. It was opened in June 1906 and closed in 1968 when Pfizer bought the property. It was demolished in 1969. Although it is not dated, I was able to date it to circa 1908-1909 because it has the then manager's name W.J. Fleming on the cover. I did online research and found advertising with Mr. Fleming's name on it as manager in 1908-1909. He may have been there when it opened and I'm not sure when he left. I also compared the prices of the wines to other old menus from this 1908 era and the prices match very closely. Paper menu has logo on the front cover and measures 5.5" by 8". There is the cover paper then loose 4 pages with wines, cocktails, etc. Condition is as you see in the photos with this listing. Cover has some rub and scuff, age and use soiling-stain marks. Inside the first page has an ink write-over on the wine list marking it vintage 1900. Pages inside are nice overall. It is being sold "as is" as was found so please be sure you are ok with it. Nice, original collectible from this hotel long gone for anyone interested in collecting New London, Groton, CT history or old menus. read more
